Kaziranga: North-east of Guwahati, Kaziranga wildlife reserve is on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and is famous as the last major home of 'Rhinoceros Uni-cornis'. The 430 square km park is thought to have a rhino population approaching a thousand but in 1904 they were on the verge of extinction here. The park became a game sanctuary in 1926 and by 1966 the numbers had risen to about 400.
Earth Song: Guwahati's best art gallery, it is located at Chandmari. Closeby is also the Guwahati Artists' Guild which houses a collection of paintings by the city's artists.
Botanical Garden: Attached to the zoo, this garden, which covers an area of 175 hectares, supports a number of endangered and rare species of wildlife and plants
Umananda Temple: is a Shiva temple on Peacock Island in the middle of the river. There's a pleasant ferry across the river.
The Navagrah Temple: is the 'Temple of the Nine Planets'. In ancient times this was a centre for the study of astronomy and astrology. It is situated on the Chitrachal Hill, near the city.
Kamakshya: is the Guwahati's best known temple is the Kamakshya on the Nilachal Hill, 10 km from the city. It attracts pilgrims from all over India, especially during the Ambuchi festival in August.
The Assam State Museum: This museum is located at Dighalipukhuri, very close to Pan Bazar, one of the main markets.
Science Museum: An experience for both students and professionals, the museum has exhibits that explain various scientific phenomena
Planetarium: The only one of its kind in Guwahati, the mysteries of the universe are brought alive here.
