It is well known for its glorious ancient forts & palaces, magnificent havelis, desert, camel safaris etc. The traditional ‘Havelis’ built by the wealthy merchants are carved in golden yellow sandstone which has still managed to hold its charm. The fort of Jaisalmer, built in 12th century, stands atop a hill from where you can get a panoramic view of the whole region.

The camel safari in the vast Thar Desert is very exciting at the same time it can be tiring too. The people of Jaisalmer are very deeply rooted to their traditions. The folk music and the cultural dance are unique to this region and attract hordes of tourists, both domestic and international. Additionally people can also watch the skills of snake charmers, acrobats and puppeteers.

The airport at Jaisalmer is located about 9 kilometers from the city centre which is expected to open for tourists very soon. The nearest airport which is connected to the major cities of India is in Jodhpur, which is around 290 kilometers away. Direct trains are available from Delhi and other important Indian cities. Bus and taxi service is also a convenient option.
