Varanasi Tourism

Varanasi is fondly called cultural capital of India because of presence of many temples. It is a holy town situated on the banks of river Ganga which is considered as the holiest river. It is believed that by just taking a deep all sins of the people would be washed away with the river. Earlier known as ‘kashi’ Banaras is considered holy by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains.

This spiritual city has produced many renowned philosophers, poets, writers, and musicians such as Kabir, Ravidas Swami Ramanand,
Trailanga Swami, Munshi Premchand, Jaishankar Prasad, Acharya Shukla, Ravi Shankar, Girija Devi, Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Bismillah Khan. Earlier known as ‘kashi’ Varanasi holds the glorious ‘Banaras Hindu University’ which is an important learning centre of India.

SIGHT SEEING

People come here to cremate their loved ones. It’s believed that by cremating in this holy city the person would get salvation. The holy shrine of Kashi Vishwanath and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva increase ‘the city of lights’ spiritual quotient. There are about 100 ghats in Banaras. Dashashwamedh Ghat located close to Vishwanath Temple is probably the holiest ghat because of a mythological story of God Brahma attached to it.

Manikarnika Ghat, Scindia Ghat, Mana-Mandir Ghat, Lalita Ghat are other some of the important ghats of Varanasi located near famous
temples. Other temples such as Durga Temple, Vyasa Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple etc are thronged by devotees almost throughout the year. More than 1,000,000 pilgrims visit the city each year.
